Syria Assad Regime Military Retaliation – Houla Massacre

According to the United Nations, 108 people were killed, including 34 women and 49 children, they were killed in the attack overnight between 25 and 26 May 2012, most knifed or shot at close range. Most of the massacre’s victims had been “summarily executed in two separate incidents and an “entire families were shot in their houses” in the village of Taldo.

Video later emerged on the Internet showing the bloodstained bodies of many children huddled on a floor in the dark, some with their skulls split open, some with their throats cut, and others knifed or shot to death.

The video also featured a man’s voice screaming, “These are all children! Watch, you dogs, you Arabs, you animals – look at these children, watch, just watch!”

UN investigators have reported that most of the dead were summarily executed, the consistent testimonies of victims and witnesses with direct knowledge of the events stated that the massacre was committed by pro-government Shabiha.

Channel 4 news reported that Houla residents stated that the Syrian military and government-hired Shabiha were the perpetrators of the massacre, as claimed by opposition groups. Townspeople described how Shabiha, who were thought to be men from Shia/Alawite villages to the south and west of Houla (Kabu and Felleh were named repeatedly) entered the town after several hours of shelling. According to one eyewitness, the killers had written Shia slogans on their foreheads (the Alawi faith is a Shia sect).

An elected president free to kill his own citizens and nobody would stop him! Innocent unarmed civilians: men, women, children and infants were brutally slashed, hacked to death with knives or shot at close range in their own home. This manifestation of the sectarian hatred fomenting within the country.

“What happened in Houla and elsewhere (in Syria) are brutal massacres which even MONSTERS would not have carried out,” Mr Assad said in the televised address.

Use of Chemical Weapons in the Syrian Civil War

Use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Civil War has been confirmed by the United Nations. The deadliest attacks were the Ghouta attack in the suburbs of Damascus in August 2013 and the Khan al-Asal attack in the suburbs of Aleppo in March 2013. Several other attacks have been alleged, reported and investigated.

A U.N. fact-finding mission and a UNHRC Commission of Inquiry have simultaneously investigated the attacks. The U.N. mission found likely use of the nerve agent Sarin in the case of Khan Al-Asal (19 March 2013), Saraqib (29 April 2013), Ghouta (21 August 2013), Jobar (24 August 2013) and Ashrafiyat Sahnaya (25 August 2013). The UNHRC commission later confirmed the use of Sarin in the Khan al-Asal, Saraqib and Ghouta attacks, but did not mention the Jobar and the Ashrafiyat Sahnaya attacks. That Sarin was used in Khan al-Asal was also the conclusion of the Russian investigation of the attack.

The UNHRC commission also found that the Sarin used in the Khan al-Asal attack bore “the same unique hallmarks” as the Sarin used in the Ghouta attack and indicated that the perpetrators likely had access to chemicals from the Syrian Army’s stockpile.

The victims’ symptoms described by medics – were consistent with exposure to a nerve agent, including shortness of breath, disorientation, runny nose, eye irritation, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, general weakness, and eventual loss of consciousness.

Syrian soldiers shot for refusing to fire on protesters

Syria Unsung Heroes
Syrian soldier ‘ordered to fire’ on peaceful unarmed protesters

According to Lt. Col. Hussein Harmoush, a high ranking Syrian military defector, in many instances special security forces formed a second line behind soldiers, to make sure they shot at protestors. If they don’t, he said, they were shot themselves. He claimed 90 percent of soldiers killed in protests had gunshot wounds in their backs.

“He says there are in Syria about 3,000 IRGC men and 2,000 HZ fighters, in addition to 300 Amal Movement men [i.e. Lebanese Resistance Detachments] and 200 [Syrian National Socialist Party] militiamen. The IRGC men are leading the pro-regime armed gangs. Syrian soldiers who refuse to open fire on protesters are killed by the Iranians and pro-Syrian Lebanese allies. The Iranians and Lebanese usually stand behind Syrian troops and kill Syrian soldiers immediately if they refuse to open fire. The 17 Syrian troops dumped in the Orontes River in Hama were killed by HZ men.”
