European parliament accused of ‘hiding away’ proof of torture by Assad regime

The European parliament has ruled against holding a major public exhibition of photographs documenting torture and abuse in Syrian government institutions, deeming the images too provocative, “disturbing and offensive”, the Guardian has learned.

The MEPs have decided that the photographs, smuggled out of Syria at great risk by a defector from the Assad regime codenamed Caesar, may only be shown at an undetermined future date in a small conference room on the parliament’s grounds. However, few people are likely to see it there and will not be endorsed by the organisation, even though the exhibition and its horrifying images were officially hosted by the United Nations.

A diplomatic source familiar with the discussions told the Guardian: “These photos are a powerful reminder of the systematic torture and mass killings ongoing in Syria – the very least the European parliament can do is bear witness.

“Catastrophe” in Yarmouk as ISIS seizes camp

18,000 Palestinian refugees include 3,500 children are trapped between Assad’s barrel bombs and ISIS beheadings in the besieged Yarmouk Camp in Syria.

The camp is under siege for 612 days by Assad regime, 700 days no electricity, 188 days without water, 77 people starved to death as of April 2, 2015.

Question is: What does #ISIS really want with the refugee Yarmouk Camp?

— Yarmouk is being annihilated’: Palestinians in Syria are left to their fate
— “Turn off your electricity, water, heating, eat once a day, live in the dark ”
— Why is that UN now supporting Assad who killed thousands of Muslims? Where is UN, when Assad starved thousands of Muslims in Yarmouk Camp?
— Beyond Inhumane
— The refugees of Yarmouk deserve better than silence
— UN agency voices ‘deep concern’ as violence in Yarmouk Camp intensifies
— Head of UNRWA calls for safe passage for civilians to leave Yarmouk Camp under ISIS attack
— Quote one former resident of Yarmouk Camp: “It’s a battle within a battle in a siege within a siege…”

People of Al Yarmouk are not asking for much. They just need your support wherever you are in the world. Raising your voice and a simple act of solidarity can get them out of hell.

Systematic Torture and Killing by Assad Regime …

Tragically, the Assad regime answered peaceful demonstration after peaceful demonstration with ever-increasing force. In the four years since then, this conflict has now left more than 200,000+ dead, and it’s hard to count accurately. We all know that. The fact is that these people have been killed by guns, by tanks, by artillery, by gas, by barrel bombs, by Scud missiles. They’ve been killed by weapons almost exclusively of the magnitude not possessed by the opposition. Starvation has been used as a weapon of war. And most recently, we have seen horrific reports of systematic torture and execution of thousands of prisoners. This is an appalling assault, not only on human lives, but on human dignity and on every standard by which the international community tries to organize itself, recognizing the horrors of the humanitarian catastrophe that has unfolded, the destabilization of neighboring countries, and the endless exile of refugees.
