Assad Regime Atrocities

Systematic Torture and Rape in Assad Regime Prisons

05-03-2015: ‘A former female detainee of a brutal security branch in Syria has told Zaman al-Wasl of her experience of torture and the systematic rape of activists inside the prison.

Photos below shown is not Om Ahmed. The Assad regime security forces cut off a woman’s hair for fun to humiliate and degrade her. Unfortunately, these kind of atrocities happen everyday in Syria.

Om Ahmed’s husband was killed in the battles of Southern Damascus, where she stayed to support the fighters who looked after her and treated her as a sister.

On her way home from a visit to her brother in Kiswa, she was arrested by regime security forces and moved to al-Khatib Detention Center, a facility of the Interior Security Department.

Imprisoned for three months, Om Ahmed underwent haunting traumas. “They regularly burned women’s bodies with hot poles while hanging them from their hands for hours,” Om Ahmed said.

The former detainee was subjected to torture, as security members wanted information about the rebels’ details and locations. “They used to drop cold water on my head and body, then hit me. I was hanged from my hands many times on the “Ghost”, where they tried to humiliate me. However the torture I received was not comparable to what other women faced”.

“An officer broke my finger by closing the door on it. All I can remember is that they called him Ali, but I cannot remember his face – as we were not allowed to look at officers’ faces”, she painfully detailed. Om Ahmed mentioned that security members tended to rape virgins, while other girls were often raped by groups of men.

Om Ahmed reported that a 19-year-old girl from Southern Damascus suffered from heavy bleeding because of the frequent rape she was subjected to. “Doctors visited the prison in cases of bleeding after rape. I met doctors, one was a good man as he transferred girls to hospitals, while another was tough and cruel, swearing at girls and women”, Om Ahmed recalled.

The former prisoner reported that one woman fell pregnant inside the prison, only to be taken away following the discovery. Her fate is still unknown. Om Ahmed confirmed that girls as young as 10 were in the prison, also subjected to similar torture. The woman claimed that security members used to cooperate with shabeeha, providing them imprisoned girls for money.

Om Ahmed was later transferred to Sasaa’s prison where she stayed for 20 days, tortured and humiliated. “Security members described us as ‘traitors’, where their military boots had more honor than us,” she said.’

al-Bayda and Baniyas Massacres by Assad Regime

Published on Sep 13, 2013
Warning – this video contains extremely distressing images. In May 2013 the Syrian army entered a small town called al-Bayda and massacred at least 169 men, women and children. Channel 4 News met with the survivors.

Bashar al-Assad regime brutality: Military Operation & Retaliation
al-Bayda and Baniyas Massacres
Racism and regime evil alone are to blame!
All Sunnis reject the regime, Sunnis are rebels!
“al-Bayda was a predominantly Sunni village … The Syrian government didn’t consider al-Bayda to be a threat!”

* Sex segregation is consistent!
* Women and children, were slaughtered with knives, throat-slicing.
* Babies seeming to be hugging each other as the bullets tore into them.
* A young boy, Luqman al-Hiris, was beheaded – in front of his mother.
* Another victim, a pregnant woman, was reportedly sliced open to kill the fetus inside.

Sara, a 12-year-old girl who survived somehow, probably by hiding. She says she later found the body of her tortured and murdered father, throat sliced.

Sara calls for intervention by the outside world: “They have slaughtered all of us … The world should pay attention about what is happening in al-Bayda. Why is everyone asleep? Why don’t they do something?” This is extremely reminiscent of Ali al-Sayed, an 11-year-old miracle survivor of the infamous false-flag Houla massacre a year before. He also had some names memorized, but switched them from one relative to another, along with all relevant details of his shifting story. He was clearer in his “demand that the international community stop the killing in Syria & in Houla … We’re being killed in our homes. The international community … must fight for us, do what they say, and protect us.”

Syria 4 Years Revolution Anniversary Rally Around the World

syria assad torture UN hungry children

From “The Syrian Campaign”

Dear friend,

Syria needs all the support we can give it!

I’m not Syrian but I share the Syrian dream for change. Four years ago it didn’t begin with guns and mortars. Four years ago it began with peaceful calls for freedom.

I watched grainy YouTube footage of protests uploaded by citizen journalists with shaking voices. Hundreds of thousands of people were standing in places like Assi Square in Hama chanting for freedom and holding the longest flags you’ve ever seen in your life [1]. I saw footage of tanks rolling in to crush the protests and bullets entering protesters’ chests.

I heard the stories of amazing women who would bake sweets to give to army soldiers, coaxing them not to jail their sons and daughters.

I heard the stories of activists who formed underground committees to organize protests every Friday, using pseudonyms on Skype to avoid getting caught by the regime. So many of them were hunted down by the security forces and disappeared or killed. Like Ghiath Matar, or “Little Ghandi” who used to hand out roses and bottles of water to armed soldiers who came in to crush the protests. Ghiath was 24 and expecting his first child when he was abducted by the regime. A few days later, his lifeless body was returned to his family, bearing marks of torture [2].

What does it mean for our world when people are silent after thousands of activists like Ghiath meet their end this way? I don’t know, but it’s not a world I want to live in. What happens in Syria is a part of our shared struggle for a better world.

That’s why this Sunday I’m going to Martyrs Square in Beirut to attend a demonstration in solidarity with Syrians on the 4th anniversary of their uprising. I’ve added a list of events below marking this moment around the globe. Please join one this weekend if you can.

We can’t bring back any of the beautiful humans who died for their desire to be free. But we can honor them and make sure their aspirations live on forever. Let’s stand up and be counted this weekend for a peaceful and dignified future for our Syrian sisters and brothers.

No one is free until we’re all free!

Bissan

P.S. If you’ve organized an event and it isn’t listed, please reply to this email – it will be updated on this page.

The Syria Campaign is building an open, global movement working for a peaceful future for Syria. We are people from all over the world who are coming together to tackle what the UN has described as “the greatest humanitarian tragedy of our time”.

Syria needs all the support we can give it!

A Plea From The Heart of a Syrian Father

We are talking to the people of your country, not the government. the people to see how we are living. The children of Syria are dying! Put yourselves in our shoes. We are humans. We respect humanity. We respect humans.

We are talking to the citizens, to the people. how everyone, especially mothers, feel when their children sleep healthy and full of food, while our children are hungry or sick. How do you feel about that? The father when he goes to sleep feeling desperate because he cannot afford to feed his children, while the child in your country sleeps full.

We are people. We are dying because of hunger. We are dying for lack of healthcare. Just empathise with us as humans. We have nothing to do with the war – we do not like war. We respect humanity in all the regions of the world. We are talking to you, asking you for help, as humans. no more. no less.
