Syria Assad’s Genocidal Crimes

Syrian Civil War “Holocaust” – Over 250,000 killed, some 20,000 were children since 2011 uprising.

The “responsibility to protect”—known in international-relations circles as R2P—is a simple notion: Nations must protect their citizens from genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing, and must take action to help other nations whose governments can’t or won’t protect their peoples.

The Obama administration’s apparent distancing from R2P speaks to the tremendous challenge of mobilizing Americans—whether politicians or the public—to support action on humanitarian grounds. Saving lives is a hard sell these days.

Asked about the doctrine at her July confirmation hearing to be ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power said it is “less important, I think, than U.S. practice and U.S. policy, which is that when civilians are being murdered by their governments or by nonstate actors, it’s incumbent on us to look to see [what we] might do in order to ameliorate the situation.”

70th Anniversary of Holocaust

US President Barack Obama: We commemorate all of the victims of the Holocaust, pledging never to forget, and recalling the cautionary words of the author and survivor of Auschwitz Primo Levi, “It happened, therefore it can happen again. . . . It can happen anywhere.” Today we come together and commit, to the millions of murdered souls and all survivors, that it must never happen again.

Germany’s president Joachim Gauck:We say this at a time when we in Germany must work to reach a new understanding of the coexistence of different religious and cultural traditions. The community in which we all want to live will only flourish if we respect the dignity of the individual and if we live in solidarity.

Bristish PM David Cameron vows:
Holocaust Memorial Day brings people together across the world. As PM I will ensure we keep Britain’s promise to remember. Britain will “remember today, tomorrow and every generation to come”.

The Queen: We remember all those affected: those who died, those who have rebuilt their lives in Britain, and the rescuers and liberators who took great risks to assist and save their fellow human beings. Many refugees and survivors of the camps and ghettoes found a home in the United Kingdom and have given us their energy and commitment.

Francois Hollande tells French Jews: France will protect all its children – all religions and acknowledged that anti-Muslim acts have also proliferated. Your place is here, in your home.

Pope Francis: Auschwitz cries out with the pain of immense suffering and pleads for a future of respect, peace and encounter among peoples.
